So the Explorer is going to get … smarter!

Spy Shot of a 2011 Ford Explorer

So Ford is really stacking the Crossover/Small SUV market. They have the Edge, the Flex, and the Escape and now they are making building the new Explorer is being on the Taurus platform. In my mind, this is just going to make it another Flex. And they also are giving it a new eco-boost engine may reduce from the power of the engine though it will be better on your pocketbook.

In Ford defense though, this explorer is the most high tech off-road that Ford has ever produced. The brakes and the power train are going to start acting like a Range Rover and really showing what an explorer can do. They are getting rid of the transfer case and making it all the rest of the truck do the work. I am excited to see Ford can do.

The Trail days are back again

March 19th, 2010

4x4

The Season is finally changing and we all know what this means. 4 wheeling groups will start rallying their troops and we will all head out on trail days. I love heading out with a group of my buddies and really seeing what we can get our vehicles to do.

There is something great about going out with a group of people who really understand off roading and making our toys do climbs that they would otherwise not be about to do. If you are not in a club, you need to get into one.

Death of one of the greatest off-roading machines

February 26th, 2010

Hummer

Between the financial failures of GM and their inability to make one with even somewhat respectable gas mileage, The Hummer brand is officially dead. The amazing vehicle that was the army’s response to one awesome off-roading vehicle will no longer be sold to civilians again new.

There was hope that a last minute deal could be reached with a Chinese company but no deal could be reached in time because of their track record of the last few years. Is this the end of suburban tanks? Are we only going to be able to buy Jeeps and Range Rovers in the future? We will see.

Off Road Tires

BFGoodrich, one of the largest names in tires, has just finished testing their new brand of off road tires at the off-roading competition called “King of the Hammers.”

They are calling the new tires, “Rock Racers” and all the reviews have been quite positive. They have been proven exceptional in all 3 main off-road areas. Well done BF

A larger family friendly Rubicon.. I don’t know how I feel about this

January 28th, 2010
by admin

So the Jury in my opinion is still out if this vehicle will keep up with the off-roading tradition that I expect from the Rubicon brand. A new 4 door extended sized Rubicon Unlimited will be coming out in 2010. According to Jeep, this family sized jeep will get within 50 feet of any original sized jeep and will be about to 5 people there comfortably.

I remember the glory days of the CJ and Willey Jeeps, the brand has come a long way since then. I don’t want to judge until I have officially driving on but I am hopeful that Jeep doesn’t let me down.

Land Rover Discovery 4 named 4 x 4 of the Year

January 22nd, 2010
by admin

Now, this is well deserved and everyone knows it. Land Rover Discovery 4 is this year’s 4 x 4 of the year. With their V-6 twin turbo diesel and their skills as an off-road super machine, the Discovery deserves this honor.

I have never been unhappy with my rover, I have never been stuck too bad that I couldn’t find a way out. Also, I love the fact that it fits both in the country and at the finest restaurant.

Snow time fun

December 30th, 2009
by admin

There is something therapeutic about going out on the road and slipping and sliding around on back roads and really seeing what your car or truck can do and how awesome of a driver you think you are.

This is the time of year where you can pretend like you are drifting corners like you are in “The Fast and the Furious” but don’t have to pay for the expensive body mods on your car. Have fun

The snow and ice don’t stop me from Black Friday deals.

November 25th, 2009
by admin

Let me give you a little back story of where I live,  I love in a small town in Wyoming that always has heavy snow in November.   And it’s that time of year again, time for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, the two busiest days of my life. One day I spent cooking and eating the greatest food on Earth, then I have a midday nap and I get ready to stand out in the cold so that I can get amazing shopping deals.  Now, a lot of people I know have problems getting around, I on the other hand, do not.  Thank you 4 wheel drive!

Though, I have figure out a way to even get more off on my Black Friday sales.  My master plan this year is to get gift certificates that at a discount on sites like citydeals or others and then use them for payment on my items.  This is what I call a double bonus, a genius move on my part!

Moab’s Jeep Safari

November 10th, 2009
by admin

Easter is usually when people get together as families and find eggs and celebrate their time together.  In my house, that is when my family went down to Moab, Utah and tried to bounce our very expensive trucks on sandstone rocks.   And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

For those who haven’t been, Moab Utah has landscape filled with great trails of Sandstone rocks and valleys that help your off-roading machine perform the way it should.   You can either go on one of the many little trails by yourself or join one of the many groups that approach it caravan style.

I would argue that this some of the best trails in the nation.   If you haven’t made it to Utah … pack up the truck and get over here.   Prove yourself with the best and we will see you next easter!
